The furniture industry is an exciting and fast growing sector globally. This rapid expansion in recent years has resulted in an increasing need for highly skilled professionals across the varying sectors. SFIC Institute has in place specific training programmes that cater to this need. Developed under the WSQ Place-and-Train model, these programmes allow employers high training subsidies and salary support while training of employees will be conducted under a structured plan.

Profession Conversion Programme
for Designers

A programme that aims to develop designers in the burgeoning industry. The programme is open to mid-career switchers and even existing furniture design professionals seeking an upgrade of their skills.

Course fees to be paid by employer, refer below for SALARY SUPPORT. Employee must be below 3 months of employment doing design related job scopes

The programme model

Below states its offer employers in salary subsidies for each candidate recruited:

New Hire – 70% of the basic salary OR maximum $4000/month, whichever is lower for the period
of 6 months.

New Hire – 90% of the basic salary OR maximum at $6,000/month, whichever is lower for the period
of 6 months. 40 years old and above or has been unemployed for 6 months.

New hire is required to undergo a series of industry skillset training for 27 days, to be completed within
the first 6 months period, to be based on the schedule given.

Profession Conversion Programme
for Matured Workers

This programme seeks to offer older professionals an opportunity to enter the furniture industry, particularly those making a mid-career switch. In this programme, the positions that are eligible include retail salesperson, administrator and project coordinator.

Course fees to be paid by employer, refer below for SALARY SUPPORT. Employee must be below 3months of employment in any job scope and able to read and write basic English.

The programme model

Company who is looking to hire/ already hired mature staffs above 40 years old to embark on Matured Worker Program.

Below states its offer to employers in salary subsidies for each candidate recruited:

New Hire – 40 years old and above and employed less than 3 months – 70% of the basic salary
OR maximum at $2,000/month, whichever is lower for the period of 6 months, Max cap: $10,000.

New hire is required to undergo a series of industry skillset training for 18 days, to be completed within
the first 6 months period, to be based on the schedule given.
